The Art of Sound With Wassily Kandinsky (Doodling)

Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter and art theorist, was generally credited as the pioneer of abstract art. In this course, your child will learn how to relate music with art and to use sounds and music to inspire drawing flow. In this course, they will create four different abstract pieces inspired by different sounds. At the end of class, the kids will produce their own abstract art piece.

Course Details:

Session 1: Infinity Art With Yayoi Kusama (Painting)

Class Objectives:
1. Get to know artist Yayoi Kusama and her
unique minimalist art style
2. Exercise careful attention to detail
3. Warm up to using loud, vibrant colors in
painting

Project output: A painting of still life with dotted details

Materials (To Be Prepared by Student):
– Thick paper (Oslo or watercolor paper)
– Poster paint or acrylic paint
– 2 or more paint brushes in various sizes
– Two simple objects from your home (can be fruit, toys, vases, etc) to use as still life reference

Session 2: The Art of Sound With Wassily Kandinsky (Doodling)

Class Objectives:

2. Use sounds and music to inspire drawing flow
3. Create four different abstract pieces inspired by different sounds

Project Output: An abstract art piece

– Colored pencils, markers or crayons

Session 3: Paper Play With Henri Matisse (Collage)

Class Objectives:
1. Learn about Henri Matisse and his paper cut-out technique
2. Express oneself in shape and color
3. Learn fluidity in art composition

Project Output: A paper collage artwork

Materials (To Be Prepared by Student):
– Assorted colors of art or construction paper (can be scraps)
– Old magazines
– Scissors
– Glue

Session 4: Cubist Self Portrait with Pablo Picasso (Self-Portrait)

Class Objective:
1. Learn about Pablo Picasso and his Cubist art style
2. Exercise attention to facial detail
3. Use simple geometric shapes and vivid colors to portray one’s own facial features

Project Output: A mixed media self-portrait

Materials (To Be Prepared by Student):
– Paper
– Assorted colors of art or construction paper
